Ephesians 4:26-27 (NLT) – Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
Life is short. Too short for us to hold on to past hurts. All of us have been hurt by others, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Some are deep, but if we’re being honest, some are ridiculous. How many of us are angry or annoyed with someone right now while reading this? Is it valid? Did they legitimately offend you or did they sit in “your pew” at church? Did they honestly hurt you or did they not respond or give you the attention you feel like you deserved?
Healthy relationships are one of the most important things to living a life as God intended. None of us are promised tomorrow. We never know when our “number is up.” God tells us that living offended actually gives the devil an “in” to our lives. Think right now about the people, past or present, in your life. Do you still hold grudges against any of those? Do you need to apologize for an attitude or a behavior or a decision you made that affected someone else negatively? Don’t let the sun go down today with you continuing to be angry. It can end today.
Prayer: “God, I pray you would bring to mind any person I have an offense or grudge against. I realize that continuing in this attitude is giving the Enemy a place in my life I don’t want him to have. I forgive them now in Jesus’ name and I choose today to live in peace and love. Amen.”
